“Protect your water. It’s just beneath your feet.”

Example Storm water system flow

The Fresno Metropolitan Flood Control District was created by our community in 1956, and manages flood and surface waters while protecting lives and property. Its flood control and urban drainage system design concept is considered one of the finest in the country, providing water supply and quality benefits by soaking 70-85% of the annual stormwater runoff back into the underground groundwater aquifer, your source of drinking water.

Your lifestyle can accidentally contribute to pollution of our water resources.
Rain and excess water from our homes flows down city gutters to stormwater basins, and eventually into canals, creeks, and even into the San Joaquin River, all of which recharge our water supply underground.
