Parks

The primary function of District stormwater basins is capture and control of stormwater and urban runoff. However, to the maximum extent possible, basins are designed and developed for secondary public uses. These secondary uses are groundwater replenishment (recharge) and recreation uses.

There are currently 22 sites used jointly for recreation. Some are simply open green space, others have play equipment, baseball diamonds, or soccer fields, and two are top quality parks designed to be fully accessible by visitors of varying physical abilities.

Multiple-use facilities include:

• Sloan Johnson Oso de Oro Lake Park
• Trolley Creek Park
• Basin CN/Harry Goorabian Park
  Planning, construction, and funding of this facility was undertaken by the River Park Little League, with major sponsorship from the Zabelle Karahadian Goorabian Foundation. It is a state-of-the-art little league park with four baseball diamonds and a clubhouse located inside of a functioning stormwater basin east of Fresno Street, and south of Alluvial behind Kaiser Hospital.
• Basin 1E Park, Ashlan west of Fowler Avenue -

• Basin XX, Hughes south of McKinley - approximately 6 acres of the 13.44-acres basin have been developed to provide soccer goals and a softball diamond for the Jane Addams Elementary School neighborhood.
